This evening I witnessed the season's first truck on the open lake: An SUV with snowmobile trailer traveling from north of Bear Island to the Moultonborough mainland, and a smaller SUV followed at about 100 feet. Bobhouse communities are beginning to pop up in places that didn't even freeze last winter. I saw no vehicles at all on the open lake last winter.

Yesterday I measured the ice south of Black Cat Island at 9 inches and I assume after another cold night and day, it's thicker now.

Just beware of the lake monster!
