I can't speak as a local but only as another tourist. I have seen all types in places like The Weirs and I don't think anyone pays any attention. Well ... my wife says I gawk a bit if the bathing suit has less material than the purse
. Personaly, I saw a lot more racism during a 3 week visit to Atlanta GA than I ever saw in NH, both now or 30 years ago. Keep in mind there are always a few rude & crude people everywhere including NH, MA, RI or the Pacific NW.
