Meredith Bay too
Tonight I saw ice forming in the normal protected spots around The Inn At Bay Point in Meredith Bay.
Water temp at Black Cat WeatherCam is 40 both at the surface and 10 feet down. For a time last night the surface reading dropped to 39 but came back up again when the air temp stopped falling (it bottomed out at 10) and the dewpoint also came up.
Ice-in depends totally on the temp, wind and humidity now. Extremely low humidity (dewpoint near or below zero F) normally associated with arctic blasts would help the water temp to drop quickly, especially if wind blows over the water surface. However, if it stays windy, the open areas of the lake will not freeze until we finally get a clear, calm and cold night. If the air temp comes back up to normal it will slow the water's rate of cooling which is currently about 2 degrees per week.
The anticipated snowpack will help reflect heat away from the earth for as long as it remains... this will be especially noticeable if we get a clear calm night with low dewpoint.
