It can be an interesting mix of people in the area, but rarely have I encountered someone who struck me as malevolent or destructive. One time, I was walking around downtown Laconia, looking for a particular store. A teenager approached, she was Goth with lots of piercing and some tatoos. Against my better judgment, I stopped her and asked for directions, fully expecting to be treated with disdain. Turns out, she was incredibly friendly. Thank goodness most teenagers in the area don't look like that, but I've found all that I've encountered to be much nicer than the average teenagers I meet in my bucolic home town outside of N.H. This goes double for cashiers in most stores. They're friendly. What's wrong with you people? Friendly cashiers? Unheard of in many places.
So where are the bad-natured people? I'm sure they exist, but I wouldn't say the Lakes Region has nearly as many as other, more populated areas. And as for the tire-slashing, I'm sorry to hear it happened to you but I'll bet its a rare occurrence. This kind of stuff can happen anywhere, especially when alcohol is involved.

My comment was that the area brings out the best and worst in people. I know some terrific folks up here and have had some awful experiences. I am glad that your experience has been different. We were hit by a drunk driver about 6 years ago who had been released the same day by the police. I think that there is a dichotomy here and I made no statement about whether it is better or worse than anywhere else.
As for Patricks Pub, I would think that security should be a concern. If I owned the business, I would address this kind of thing. I hope that it is an isolated incident, but somehow doubt it. I do like the food and atmosphere at Patricks and have not had a problem there in the past.
