Wow -- that's a tough question...much like "How much is a cab ride?"

Everyone would have an opinion (or seven or ten) as to the best backdrop. Personally, I like mountain vistas of the lake. Locally, Mount Major (Belknap Range) and Bald Knob (Ossipee Range) afford sweeping views of the lake. The Sandwich Range does as well.

Closer to Lake level, I can never get enough of the profile of the Ossipees in a lake picture. I simply love that range. It's a unique formation, too -- one of only a few examples of "moat volcanics" on the planet. Pretty cool.

That being said, my favorite background of all, one that I use damn near every year to snap pics of my growing kids, is not on Winnipesaukee at all, but on Chocorua Lake, with the beautiful summit of Mt. Chocorua in the distance. Here on my desk, I have no fewer than three photos of kids taken with this backdrop. They actually think it's funny that I still insist on pulling off of Rte. 16 each year and make them pose together. "Humor me," I say.

Ultimately, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, eh? So you'll see something that speaks to you. And there is certainly no lack of angles and sights to be creative with in this little slice of God's country...
