The May issue of
Soundings magazine has an excellent review of boats for rough water. If you can't pick the days you're on the lake, you'll need to read, "Your Boat's Bottom...and Yours".
Summarized, they're saying that
deadrise is most important in the center of the boat, and the choices are ride vs Efficiency. (Gas mileage). Some considerations—like "bow-steering"—can be ignored, as we don't have the challenges of offshore ocean here.
