I come from NJ & felt I had to respond to angela4design about the Reuben her friend ordered. This reply is not about the merits of Mame's just about how the Reuben was served.

In The metropolitan NY area a Reuben is normally served with one slice of bread. It is typically an open face sandwich piled high with corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese & thousand island dressing. At any good Jewish deli it is typically 2-3" high. Was I surprised when I moved up here & had it served with 2 pieces of bread.
