The Army Corp of Engineers says 2" of black ice will support a single person. Personally, knowing the downside risk if I miscalculate, I'd surely not be out there either. An older gentleman drowned on a pond near me in MA when he went ice skating by himself and fell through. Experienced person who skated on that pond for years. Just made a number of poor decisions that led to his unfortunate demise. My wife already considers herself an "ice fishing widow", but she really doesn't want it to be literally true! I'd prefer not to be a statistic like that either....
