I put up chicken wire around my trees, 3 feet high seems to do the trick. My neighbor had a tree that was chewed of at the bottom but was tied to another tree about 6 feet up so it didn't fall. You know what those devilish beavers did - they climbed above the tie off and chewed the tree off so it would fall - UNBELIEVABLE!
