JK, the
Profile page is not where the Avatar is. Instead, you need to go to the
Control Panel. This is not obvious. But see the picture below. I've circled it and pointed an arrow at "User CP" -- the User Control Panel. If you click on that, you'll see the menu on the left side. One of the menu options is Edit Avatar. Try that.
