It may be more accurate to state that AT&T supports GSM, the worlds most widely used protocol, while Verizon continues to push their outdated, almost exclusively-US solution.

Standardization can't come soon enough to this market

(and no, I have no connection to any mobile vendor. Just a frustrated international business traveler who constantly has to live with the compromise between Verizon having the best domestic coverage while GSM is best while traveling elsewhere)
