Default Cable service in Moultoboro?

I heard a rumor that TW's contract with the town will expire soon, does anyone know anything about that? And what are the chances of Metrocast getting it?

Be slim to none. TW owns all the pole facilities, recently upgraded to all fiber, it wouldn't be a cheap sale to MC.

Why do you want Metrocast? Is there a problem with TW? I don't have either company's service, so I don't have any knowledge about the quality.

I can tell you Metrocast is creating a real problem with respect to Internet on Rattlesnake Island. Some of us are probably going to engage special council (a cable specialist) to get the company to own up to its agreement and deliver cable to Rattlesnake Island. We have presented several alternatives, and Metrocast rejected all of them. Their management appears to lack vision and creativity.

During the summer months, my M'boro TW cable slows down to 400K days and evenings; early morning, I get 20M+ Winter (so far) seems to be like early mornings. Called service and they seem unconcerned as long as the signal levels are good.

Thank you for your replies.

The reason I ask is that I've had problems with getting TW out to where I am and getting ahold of their customer service. They said it wasn't worth their investment to run cable out since there are too few people where I live -- there are lines, but they are old. (And I wanted high speed internet access.) Also, their local office is in Plymouth, I believe. I've only been there once but it's a bit out of the way IMO.

Many areas around the lake have Metrocast and the company seems to be making an effort to improve and expand their business into every possible nook and cranny. (Not arguing with IslandRadio -- just something on the "mainland" perhaps?)

So I was just hoping...

thanks again!

Get a copy of the franchise agreement that TW has with the town. The Town Administrator can supply this. Look for the line extension section - see what it says. There are generally prerequisites such as so many subscribers per mile, etc. that you (and your neighbors) may very well meet. The town administrator may know the contract well enough to point out exactly where the pertinent section is located.

Check it out!

We have wanted cable on Gilman Pt. Road in Moultonborough since cable came to town. TW won't put it in. We have Direct TV and broadband sticks so we don't have to use dial-up.

Broadband sticks? Isn't there a usage limit on those? How's the downloading? I need to download video and audio but I'd like to receive streaming. What's your experience been like?

Thanks!

The Moultonboro TW contract does not expire until 2015. The wording is vague, very general and the requirements for running new lines do not contain any cost controls. The TA can give you several names of TWC to contact but your chances of getting better service are slim.

Good luck.

I don't have any experience with video or streaming using the usb broadband. Actually my sister has the stick. I also have another house in town and I have TWC internet there. My sister just started using the stick. She will probably never do video or streaming. She uses the computer for emails, internet searches etc.---very basic stuff.
