The magic water temperature has been reached with these last few days of sun. Pre spawn bass have finally come up from their deep winter haunts and are showing up around the docks and rocky shallows on the north end of Paugus Bay. Caught my first bass of the season today. Fished the rocks and docks around Christmas Island where there are nesting flats and a drop off. Used a few different rubber worms and had a few strikes. Pumpkin with red flake on a drop shot rig got some attention. Also got a couple strikes using a Sexy Frog where the swarms of flies have been hanging. Finicky fish but it's great to see the slobs slowly meandering under the dock.
![]() After I posted I landed my second...pumpkin w/ red flake...sunny flat. Last edited by PaugusBayFireFighter; 05-01-2013 at 04:00 PM. |

Heading up there tomorrow to do some shore fishing, was wondering how the bass have been? Are they pretty active? Or is the water still a little cold, never fished here before so should will be a great day regardless!

Was up since Wed and fished all 3 days. Fished out of the Moultonborough area and caught a few slobs. Did see some beds but they were empty. Caught a 4.5 lg mouth off a dock on a green pumpkin senko. Had the best fishing on Wakewan with a ton of small mouth action on beds and rocky shore line. Same senkos.

Is there a derby this week (end)? We went for a boat ride today and only saw two fishermen.

My friend's son caught his first largemouth of the season this morning. He looks happy!!
The bass was released back and will live to fight another day! |
