Default SeaDoo Key

I am preparing to sell my 2001 Seadoo and cannot find the electronic key. As I haven't used the PWC for several years, I have no idea where it might be, first stage of getting older, forgetfulness. Anyway, does anyone have any information as to how I would go about getting a new "key". Is it a generic or specially coded key? Bought the PWC used without any OEM manuals. Thanks.

Why don't you start with contacting a Seadoo dealer.

Default New Key

I'm pretty sure you can get a new key from any SeaDoo dealer. They'll need the year, model and serial number of your SeaDoo. I think the cost is around $40. I'd call first just to double check.

If it's a 2001 SeaDoo then it will probably have an electronic key built into the kill switch. To get a new key you will have to take the SeaDoo to an authorized dealer and have the keys code programed into the units computer.

If you are the original owner then your name and address are programed into the computer with the key code. If you are not the original owner you may have to prove ownership before they will program a new key.

I want to get a second key for my ski in case of an emergency, and SeaDoo dealer told me I had to bring the machine to the dealer and they connect a lead from their computer to your ski's key port and a second lead to the new DESS key and code the key to the ski. Reather than pull the machine I am just waiting till they winterize it and do it then. Bottom line is it has to go to the dealer.

Default Thanks All

I appreciate all of your advise. Taking it in for winterizing at the same time certainly makes the most sense. Anyone have any idea how much I should be asking for it? The former Extreme Marine put a rebuilt motor in it for me and it has "0" hours on it now.

The keys are about $30 each, when I lost mine earlier in the season I hauled the machine to HK Powersports in Tilton, they programmed it in about 2 minutes and did not charge me and extra service fee.
