"Burglaries & assaults are up signifigantly this year, Laconia police say drug use likely root of problem" is the title of a page 8, November 20 article in today's
www.laconiadailysun.com.
The line that really caught my attention was this one: "You can tell how bad a community's drug problem is by how many pawn shops they have, he said, noting Laconia has three..."
I read through this article from the perspective of someone who could become a victim of a home burglary in Meredith, but also as someone who really likes the one pawn shop-store that is close to the Laconia lakeport fire station, and the Lake Winnipesaukee dam, which are all close to one another on Elm St.
That Elm St pawn shop-store is a terrific little store if you are looking to buy used Black & Decker power tools, or used electronic equipment like an old Panasonic tape deck or something, or a set of Yakima roof racks or lots and lots of different consumer items. That little pawn shop is totally, totally, floor to ceiling, plus the basement, just crammed with items and everything obviously is for sale and has a PRICE TAG. Having a price tag is very important. Nothing makes me turn around and leave faster than a store or yard sale which does not have any prices on their items! Plus, the husband-wife team that probably are the owners are very nice people and are very good with the customer service side of things, which is not always the case in a pawn shop-store.
And on Saturdays, everything; fishing rods & reels, bicycles, hand tools, power tools, stereo equipment, car radios, cd's & cassettes, home furnishings, toys, watersports pfd's and water skis, tires, ....everything....it all gets reduced from the price tag price by an extra 40%-off! Can you believe it? Well......believe it!
Cash is king........ka-ching! ...
