Default Snowmobile accident in gilford

CONCORD, N.H., MAN KILLED IN WEEKEND SNOWMOBILE ACCIDENT IN GILFORD

CONCORD, N.H. -- The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has released the name of the Concord, N.H., man who was killed in a snowmobile crash in Gilford, N.H., on Saturday, January 22, 2011. Norman Mabie, age 62, was riding alone, heading northward on the 15S Trail in Gilford when he careened off a small rock in the trail and collided with a tree. The incident occurred in a wooded area about 150 feet from the trail's intersection with Morrill Street. Mabie was found, unresponsive, on the trail a short time later by a group of snowmobilers who called for help about 5:40 p.m.

Mabie was transported to the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia by Gilford Fire and Rescue personnel, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The New Hampshire State Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.

According to Fish and Game Conservation Officer Michael Eastman, Mabie had been wearing a helmet and, at this time, neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the accident.

Fish and Game Conservation Officers were assisted by Gilford Police in investigation of the incident.

No further information is available at this time.
