Default New R.V. Park Proposed in Alton

from the Baysider 6/16

Planners Get a Look at Proposed RV Park Site

Quote:
The Alton Planning Board conducted a site walk on the property owned by Robert Carleton that is being proposed as an RV park on Monday, June 13. Members of the public, abutters and members of the planning board, including chairman Tim Roy who took questions, toured the property that is located close to the Route 28 traffic circle and right next to Water Industries. The walk was guided by Carleton and began at the entrance to park, which will be paved and brought up to town standards. Carleton pointed out the plans for the roads throughout the park, which were marked by stakes and painted rocks. The plan is to have a road that forks on the property and circles back around that will allow approximately 150 RV spots.
He pointed out a spot on the property where a culvert will be added and that the road coming into the park will be 24 feet wide. Much of the property will have to be heavily landscaped with a lot of dirt and rocks being moved around. Carleton talked about the location of the bathhouses and pointed out the continuation of the roads throughout the property and location of a pair of leech fields. The back of the property will be located near the Merrymeeting River, and the plan is to bring town water across the river from Pine Street and onto the property. Carleton pointed out the spot where the water would be coming onto the property. A question was asked about the depth of the piping under the river, and Carleton said that any piping would be coming in below the bed of the river. A 75-foot buffer of the trees and plants is required near the river, but Carleton said that the buffer is closer
to 85 or 90 feet any many points near the river. The planning board will continue to discuss the case of the RV park at its next meeting on Tuesday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at the Alton Town Hall.

It is not the Camp David property. It is another proposed propery not far from there...kind of odd in my opinion.

I could be wrong, I thought it was the Zoning Board that took that walk? I say that because I know someone who was on that walk, and he's on the ZBA. I do know that Tim Roy is on the Planning Board, so maybe it was both Planning & ZBA?

And there's no mention of the abutters to this property... I wonder what their thoughts are on this project?

2nd sentence, first paragraph "Members of the public, abutters and members of the planning board, including chairman Tim Roy who took questions, toured the property..."

An organization I belong to are abutters to the property, and we have no problems with it and its possible effects on our property, which we see as none.

As far as Camp David is concerned, that is private property and will be a home and outbuildings concerning his contracting business. The owner's first name is David.

I should have said there were no quotes or interviews with the abutters... I did read they were mentioned in the beginning of the article.

I think a new business is good - and 150 RV's is going to bring in quite a bit of business in our little corner of the world...

This will be interesting to watch. Not TOO many years ago, some people tried to put an rv park in Wolfeboro (where the Boat Museum now is) and after fighting for several years were turned down. I am wondering how the Alton town officials and townspeople will react to this project.
