Most of the lake has new photos, dated 4-15-11. (10 days before ice out) Much better resolution then I have seen before.
I was able zoom all the way down to the 700' level with very nice detail on Lake Shore Park. It's fun to "Goggle Earth" your place on the lake. It's still free to download if you don't already have Goggle Earth. http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/ It is funny to see where they stitched the 4-15 map to an older map from last summer or fall. You can clearly see speed boat trails in Alton Bay.

This is Big Pier from the Goggle Earth. Zoomed to 935'. Great Detail!
The resolution of the entire lake is the best I've seen from Goggle Earth.

The imagery is so clear I can see the lines holding our dock up and I can follow the snowmobile tracks we made in front of the camp. Thanks for the heads-up on the new photos.

Thanks Steve!
Paul was looking at these images of the lake last weekend. I kept asking him to grab the shots to share. (Like the poor guy doesn't have enough to do. ![]() The ice is so interesting because you can see where it had ridden up on top of itself near the island. Does anyone know what Google Earth Pro is? |

There is a comparison grid in the link. Looks like the only difference is the ability to print images in higher resolution. Oh.. and GE Pro isn't free ![]() ![]()

I was amazed by the detail improvement as well. One nice feature on GE is that you can revert back to a previous version. Look how much of Rattlesnake is foliage free in the winter.

Here is a series of images from spring this year back to spring of 98 in black and white. This is of the Pier at Weirs Beach. You can see the mini golf in the new one. Each image is of the exact same location.

Although there's a loss of angle, I zoomed-in to 610-feet for our place. You can see by the storage of our boats—that the images were taken this winter.
![]() (The exact date is given, anyway. ![]() Quote:
Especially in Spring, the hardwoods come into their leaves in a much lighter color of green. So even in Summer—from The Broads—you can see where the White Pines "have made their stand". ![]() |

Love the new pics. The clarity is incredible.
I was looking at the view of my house. Once I got in close enough, I noticed 2 white things in my yard. At first I thought they were left over piles of snow. But the white things were in the sunny part, where the snow melts the earliest. Then it hit me...the 2 white things are my 2 dalmatians! ![]()

Steve, I just downloaded it, and at first I couldn't get it past the first half dozen or so zoom-in steps. It kept crashing. After a lot of fiddling around, I finally got zoomed in to my own place. Spooky to see. Big brother really is watching.

Gee... Can anyone help me find exactly where my septic field is?
![]() zoom to 771' You can see that with this level of detail, Goggle Earth could, and I bet will, be a major advantage to marketing company's. Imagine the information they can cull from images with this much detail: What type of car you drive, do you own a boat, do you have a wheelchair ramp, need new roofing, need driveway sealed... etc. The list could go on forever. It is a little spooky.

I downloaded the program and it is very blurry, even at 1500 feet. I'm doing something wrong or Center Harbor is not one of the areas they enhanced I guess?

You didn't do anything wrong. If you look at the shading of this pic.. you can see that GE has stitched together several pictures. The area that includes Center Harbor is a photo from 7/4/2009, same with the Alton area. If you "zoom out" on the Lake, you can clearly see where the maps where stitched. If you zoom into any area and click on any location the date of the image appears in the lower left hand corner of the zoomed image. I've noticed that some of the images from my hometown in Mass are still 2007 images. Luck of the draw I guess.

Rats! I was hoping to see our camp with a current image. Our stupid caretaker left 1/2 our dock in during the winter, and on ice out I heard from neighbors that it was destroyed. Thanks Steve.

If you look closely at the bottom of the screen, you'll see that the images actually come from different sources, such as the State and different Federal agencies. This'll affect the quality depending on how much each agency can afford for high quality images from low altitude flyovers.
