Does anyone know of a place on the lake where you can drive your boat and sleep (via tent) on an Island?

I know Jewel Island is great in Maine. I currently have my boat in Winni and do not own a trailer. i dont think there is any places on the big lake bit if anyone knows of a spot i would lobe to hear about it.

Have a look at Moosehead Lake in Maine, large lake, NO speed limits, NO police racing around the lake. You might even catch some salmon on top still! There are a number of islands, and some have sites, also along the shore, which for the most part is wilderness! Watch for the many moose in the area! Check out the Maine Gazetteer

At 35 miles long from Greenville to NE Carry its twice the size of this lake.
We own a a camp close to Moosehead and honestly it blows this lake away.
But then again Maine blows NH away in snowmobiling also.

Lake Mooselookmeguntic just across the NH border into Maine also has island and wilderness camping (or at least they used to). It's a decent size lake (about 25 sq miles as compared to Winni's 72 sq miles) and much/all of the western side of the lake was owned by a paper company and undeveloped as I recall.

Wow, at those prices I think I'll set up a few huts and platforms out in the woods behind the camp!

Looks like a nice spot out on Three Mile though.

I totally agree with you. The thing that saves it is there are no interstate up the center of Maine.

In Maine we average 500-1000 miles on ATV's from our camp in Jackman.
Last year on snowmobiles we rode 4200 miles GPS and the year before 5000 miles, all this from Rangeley to Millinocket to the border and south almost to Skowhegan.
With much of that riding out in the back country where there are no groomed trails. Gotta love the 800 Etec Backcountry.
Pittsburg NH boast 250 miles of trail, we do that in a day in Maine.

I hope we can start taking the boat to Moosehead for a summer vacation, with our camp 1/2hr from the lake we wouldn’t even have to get a slip if we didn’t want to.
Winni is so crowded now you just can’t enjoy it anymore.
Of course part of that is old age kicking in and out growing the whole Winni party scene.

About 18 years ago our young family went to Attean lake in Jackman ME and stayed at Attean Lake Lodge for a week. Stranded on an Island. No electricity, no phone, great food served by the lodge. Little boat with an outboard motor. The lake was totally undeveloped. No lights at night. I remember thinking that if we ever get in trouble on the water, they will never find us. The kids first experience fishing where they caught about 20 fish in a half an hour, most of the time without a worm on the hook buy fish who seemed quite excited to see a worm on a hook or even the smell of a worm on a hook.

In our mind the lake is still just as pristine as it was back then. What a wonderful place.

We use Attean lake to get around from point A too point B when the snowmobile trails are rough.
But what’s not to like about that whole area, Big Wood Lake, Long pond and on down to Brassua Lake to Moosehead Lake it’s all mostly undeveloped because it’s too far to drive, which is fine by me. I’ll drive the 4.5 hours every holiday during the summer and every single weekend during the winter for the outdoor life that Maine offers.

Jonas Pilot there is a big difference between shutting down private property to a bunch of drunk boneheads who just want to find mud and ripe & tear through it. Then leave trash and beer cans all over the woods.
But then again there are the boneheads who just have to pipe there sleds and ATV’s which are also causing the loss of trails both in NH and Maine.
My wife and I have worked hundereds of hours for snowmobile and ATV clubs in Maine. I've build bridges, cut brush, signed trails, removed signs at the end of the season. And just what has your contribution been?
I don't know of anyone who wants trucks and jeeps driving on there property.

Those are weekly rates and include three full meals per day. All the cabins and tents (which are all on the shore around the island) have their own docks, but they are too small for anything other than a canoe or kayak or small outboard. There are slips available at the main dock for larger boats.

Besides the summer season offering week-long stays, the camp operates during weekends in September, which can provide an opportunity to "test drive" the Three Mile experience without obligating for a full week.
