Default Cell Tower in Alton

Has anyone heard anything recent on the cell tower that was supposed to be put up in Alton Bay area. I am really tired of not getting service at the camp.

Last year or so I heard it was a no go.... Service is sketchy in Alton depending on your carrier.. Plus I noticed weather plays a big roll as well..

I heard by 3rd or 4th hand that the neighbor has it tied up in the courts. Like I said that is 3rd or 4th hand. They say the town is staying out of it and letting him do all the battling.

Default No third or fourth hand...

...the town has settled with the wireless contractor, but the abutter has continued to sue. This will just have to run its course in the legal system, until the abutter runs out of things to sue about. Apparently, he is adamant that there is either no need for the added tower, or it is a case of NIMBY, Not in My Back Yard.
If the tower gets built, from the looks of Google earth, it will beam right down to my house and I can get rid of my landline. I too am waiting.

Default cell tower

I think that the best place for a cell tower would be on Mount Major at the top. There is a tree on the southern end that stands way above the rest so a tower would or could be made to look the same. Think of the coverage that would give. And I also could get rid of the land line.

Default cell tower needed

I live in Alton and wish I had the land! Believe me they could put up a tower ON my property or beside my property; I would not care a bit. Cells do NOT work well out our way.

The cell service is so bad in West Alton I need to go to the William tell or go for a boat ride to make a call.

Default A comment or two

@John...no go on Mt Major...you would not be able to provide a buffer zone for hikers.

@livenh...the problem is not the land, it is and has been an abutter for all these years.

@smithpoint...At my house depending on which room I am in and where or not I am standing on one foot or both, I can get 1 bar, enough to text, not enough for a conversation . That tower looks like it would beam right down in to my neigborhood. Don't know if it will help you over in the smith point area. Of course, it is not so bad to have to jump in the boat and go out for a while to make a call. In fact, I can make a case for staying out in case someone wants to get hold of you, even a telemarketer !

Unfortunately, like the Baldi's and the Wide Open Saloon, until this case makes it all the way through the legal system, it will undoubtably take years to resolve. I am sure this plaintiff, being a lawyer, will continue to appeal and file new suits until all avenues are exhausted.
