I am doing a film project on KV King's gaff-rigged schooner, the Atwood, which sailed from Alton Bay from the mid-1980s until a couple years ago. I would be deeply grateful for any pictures, written memories, stories, any video-- anything having to do with this boat. Perhaps some material already exists somewhere on this forum, although I have yet to find any.
If you don't know the Atwood, some photos of her can be found at http://www.winnipesaukeecam.com/, and click the "photos" tab at the upper right, then scroll to the bottom. You can post to this thread and/or email me directly at cowen1918@aol.com. Many thanks. |

Welcome to the Forum, Schoonerfan.
I believe that if you contact, if you haven't already, the folks with winnipesaukeecam.com, they may be able to help. I believe they are part of the family, or close to them, that owned the Atwood. Good luck with your project.

What happened to that boat? I remember seeing it from Rt 11 everyday on the way to Laconia and as stated is stopped sailing a few years ago.

Thank you for welcoming me to the forum. I have read some threads in the past without registering, so I felt like this was a good place to ask for help with my project. I was right.
So also, thanks to those who have been able to provide me with pictures and further leads. The Atwood has been decommissioned, and her builder has cut the boat into pieces for firewood over the last couple of winters. I find that to be a powerful statement about our life on this earth, and part of my motivation to do this project. "Everything has a time, and that doesn't mean forever." |

That's a shame it's been cut up. I always admired the boat's lines.

I should add that, with rot in "too many of the wrong places" (words of the builder/captain), the schooner was beyond the point where it made sense to repair.
I have contacted many and various people who had a chance to sail on the Atwood over the years. The common thread is sadness that she's gone, and gratitude for the time that she sailed and graced the lake. |

My son and I own www.winnipesaukeecam.com. I have many pictures of the Atwood and a few stories I would be glad to share. You can reach me at jbanks@banksandsweeting.com. Good luck with your project. I would be interested in seeing what you put together.

I had not read this thread earlier so it's probably too late for this one. But just a reminder that it's usually not a good idea to post your email in a public forum. The hackers and others on the internet with malicious intent have automated bots that search for and find emails and phone numbers posted in places like this. Once found, you will be inundated with spam email or worse, most often resulting in the need to abandon that email address.

Not sure if you've seen this photo that I took of the Atwood back in the mid 90's. I still have the negative and probably could make a better picture from it, if your interested.
Take a look... http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopo...hp?photo=13197 PM me if needed. Terry ________________________________________________
