Default Alton to get a new weekly Newspaper

The new Alton-based Baysider goes to press......

ALTON — A new weekly newspaper dedicated to the residents of Alton, Barnstead and New Durham will debut next Thursday, April 7.

This newspaper will be published by Salmon Press. This is the same organization that is now charging an exorbitant yearly fee to view the Granite State News (The Grunter from Wolfeboro) on line. $34 if I am not mistaken. The Salmon Press also publishes the following New Hampshire newspapers;
The Granite State News: Wolfeboro, New Hampshire

Link to Granite State News (which doesn't do you much good unless you cough up the $34.)

The Littleton Courier: Littleton, New Hampshire
The Telegram: Franklin, New Hampshire
The Coös County Democrat: Lancaster, New Hampshire
The Berlin Reporter: Berlin, New Hampshire
The Record Enterprise: Plymouth, New Hampshire
The Carroll County Independent: Ossipee, New Hampshire

Click here for more information on SALMON PRESS

The folk's at Alton's monthly VOLUNTEER publication "MAIN STREET" are just a little worried about what the implications of this new publication may mean for them. I hope people continue to support "MAIN STREET" as it is truly locally produced and I think they do a fine job considering it is a totally volunteer nonprofit effort.

I have been getting the "Grunter" for the last few years, but am letting the subscription expire this month. Renewal (mailed) is $22 for 6 mos, $34 for 1 year, or $64 for 2 years. One year works out to be about $.65 per issue delivered, versus $.75 at the newstand. In either case, I just don't see it worth either amount.

I'll stick with the Main Street, and do all I can to make sure that the "Alton Happenings" get into our calendar.

Don't know what the subscription will be for the Baysider, but I would imagine it will be similar.

Thanks for the update, Mc.d
