The boat launch area in Alton is, as you know, right in the parking lot near the Alton Town Docks, but you cannot park your boat trailer there. You may launch your boat, tie up at the docks, and then take your trailer down to the "Letter S Road". Take a left out of the parking lot onto Rte 11 heading east. Follow Rte 11 past Parker Marine like you are heading up to the village of Alton. Right at the base of the hill going up into the village is a road that turns off to the right(the Merrymeeting river runs right next to the road). that is the Letter S road. Follow it down and you will see a parking area across from the Town Highway Dept. Facilities. The area is marked for Boat trailer parking. (I'd bring a good lock). Then you can take your truck back down to the bay to park. Total drive is about a mile each way. No charge for parking, first come first serve. (the Letter S Road, if you continued down it would bring you out to Rte 140 at the Alton Central Fire Station. Hope that helps.

Is the river navigable to that lot so someone launched @ the town launch could motor down to pickup the driver?

I'm not sure if its navigable but beleive me you would not want to. It would be alot quicker & easier to drive back to town dock lot. Also there is no dock for some to climb into the boat down where you park the trailer.

Thanks a bunch. Always wondered about where people parked after launching there. I've always driven up to the marina in West Alton. It cost me but I was familiar with it from when I was a kid and spent almost every summer weekend @ a friends place on Mohaut Shores (I think that's what it's called)

Thanks for the detailed info. I don't know if i want to drop the trailer off though. I might have to take 2 cars.
Thanks again |

The river definately is not navigatable up that far. Nice day for a ride anyway. Lynniken--see you at West Alton...we keep our boat there, just look for a 19 foot teal & white bowrider with "upthesaukee" on the side.
