That stinks.
10,000 gallons isn't that much compared to what could escape from those pipes, probably 100,000s of gallons. Makes me wonder if it was understated.

It's nice to learn about sewage spills in our drinking water.
In a way it's a good time for it to happen. There is 2400 cubic feet per second going over the Lakeport Dam. |

We have a 18 X 37 foot swimming pool and that holds 27,000 gallons of water. So I don't think the 10,000 is going to hurt Winni at all (how many billions of gallons are in there?). It ought to dillute pretty quickly.

Hmmm. The spill mentions Silver Sands, where the bottoms of boats have been stained black since 2002.
Gilford had a multi-million gallon spill in the spring of 1999. I draw water from the lake, and it hasn't affected me. affected me. Last edited by ApS; 05-11-2005 at 06:28 AM. Reason: Hyperlink |

Did you read in the April 28 Granite State News (front page, and page A18 "No More New Sewer Hookups") of the...er...effluent flowing into Mirror Lake from Wolfeboro's effluent-treatment facility? This...um...effluent's gotta stop! Last edited by ApS; 05-15-2005 at 07:09 AM. Reason: Page #s and title |
