Does anyone know how to contact the Winnipesaukee Data Phone? It is not answering and giving the daily data. It seems to go to a Fax machine.

I believe Don gets his water temps from the data phone. I emailed the Dam Bureau, and my email was forwarded to the "correct" person who is in training today. I expect to hear back sometime this week.
Sometimes phones have a dual purpose and are used for the occasional fax by means of a manual switch. Hopefully the switch was put on fax and someone forgot to put it back. OR They can no longer afford the phone line for the data phone. I have been calling this number for many years. It is what I use to post lake temps on rattlesnakecam.com. It would be a shame to lose this resource. IG

Since Bob Fay retired the Dataphone reports have been erratic at best. Bob would post the report early every morning, usually 7 days a week. His replacement was clearly not as dedicated. Reports became more and more infrequent, and the replacement didn't sound very enthusiastic on the recording. After calling day after day and getting no new report I began to give up.
The weather service has a system that allows web sites to pull information from the NCDC Climate Data. They publish the water temps from several locations around the lake. I've received a service key token from them and now I just need to find some time to figure out how to get it working. |

... 61-degrees water temp ...... no-way! ..... must be about 68 degrees as I've been in it maybe twenty times over the past week. Think I heard Pat Kelly, WEMJ, 1490-AM report today at about 8-am the water temp is 61-degrees which is way off..... Pat must get his Lake Winnipesaukee water temp info from Rush Limbaugh.

I got am email from the data phone guy and it is back online. The lake temp was 67 degrees this morning.
The guy sounds a lot more enthusiastic. Don. let us know when you have more info on the NCDC Climate Data. IG
