Default Does Mt. Washington still have snow?

I have always wanted to go to the top of Mt. Washington early in the summer to see it when there is still snow up there. We always to up to the Lake in June, but my husband doesn't like going up to Mt. Washington. Grouch. My boys and I always go up in August when my husband stays in Jersey, but the snow is gone my then.

However, my scroogelike husband may not be coming up with us in four weeks (how sad, has to work ) so I thought we could make the trip early this year. Will there still be snow at the end of June???

There was a segment on WMUR a couple of weeks ago where they were trying to open up the Mount Washington Auto Road. There was still on the order of 10+ feet of snow at that time. They were using front-end loaders and graders. You got a good idea of just how deep the snow still was watching the equipment.

Default Tuckerman's Ravine

If you google Tuckerman's Ravine, you can find the US Forest Service snow & ski conditions for the ravine, plus the Appalachian Mt Club's info from Pinkham Notch, plus a local Mount Washingon Valley skier's forum on rsn.com, if it still exists. Usually, Tucks is skiable thru May, and the snow at the bottom of the ravine lasts thru aprox July 4 before it all disappears. The ice on the bottom of Mahoosic Notch, on the Appalachian Trail, on the Me-NH border a little north of Gorham actually lasts through the summer and fall, so it is unofficially a glacier or someting. A good place to go chill out on a hot & humid August day. What do I know?

Most of the snow on the "rockpile" will be melted by the end of June. There is however almost always pockets of snow left where 20 feet or so of snow accumlated from wind and has hung on well into summer.A friend of mine has been on the crew running a loader or bulldozer to clear the sometimes 20 foot drifted in areas on the autoroad.Usually they try to get the autoroad open by Memorial day weekend.Take the ride up anyway. Default Thanks for the info

Thanks for all the information. We are shooting for that last Thursday or Friday in June. I hope there is still some snow left by then.
