"Problem" Riders

in our neighborhood, several of us own sleds and ride the trails near the prison in laconia. we are able to access the main trail from our own property so we don't need to trailer (unless you want to go somewhere else). a couple years ago, some people bought a house in the neighborhood, all riders, lots of sleds, atv's and dirt bikes. since they arrived a couple years ago, they've been riding their machines all over the place, whether they're supposed to be there or not. they rode their atvs down the road, onto my next door neighbor's property, then through my backyard, and into the woods on my property. i was able to catch one of them in their driveway and told them not to do that again, and they haven't that i know of.

now that the snow is here, they're tearing it up all over the place on their sleds. riding the trails but also riding all over the whole area, including areas that they're not supposed to go (the big fields by the robbie mills park, and even on the soccer field at the park). they do this every year. they're going to end up ruining the trail access for those of us who ride responsibly. how should this be handled? they're not going to listen to me or anyone else in the neighborhood. i might have to call f&g or something i think.

Get proof, and as many neighbors together as possible and turn in complaints to your locale, and State Fish & Game Department...

proof is easy, all they'd need to do is follow the tracks. they're the only ones that have been out riding so far.

pisses me off though, these guys riding all over the place like they own it. you can see the "stay on trail or stay home" signs on the trail up by the robbie mills park.. the signs are there every year. then you see their tracks all over the field, down the side of the road, in the soccer field, down the side of meredith center rd., it's ridiculous.

F&G WILL follow the tracks in the snow, you don't have to have "concrete" proof to make a report. It's folks like that who ruin landowner access for the rest of us. Good luck!

Try marking a trail, with signs - and stakes and ropes if you need to. Put out some "no snowmobiling" signs outside the marked trail. It is hard to resist going crazy a large field of fresh snow, but with guidance, most will resist.

The local snowmobile club who maintains the local trails may be able to help you out as well. It wouldn't hurt to contact them and get their opinion.

the trail is already well marked with signs and grade stakes. the club comes out and signs it every fall. everyone else who rides this part of the trail (and there's a LOT) seems to be able to follow the rules. these people just think they own the whole area and can do whatever they want and go wherever they please. my own property included. not gonna happen anymore. i emailed f&g, we'll see what they have to say.

The reason I say to contact the local club is they may and most likely do have direct contact and access to someone in F&G who can solve the problem immediately as opposed to taking the bureaucratic trail on your own...

Call Fish and Game. We had a trespasser on a sled ride across a 1/2 mile of paved walkway and up several steps and into our gazebo. Once in the gazebo, he new "he was off the trail" I called Meredith police, took them to the house of the culprit (easy to find as trails were not open and they were the only tracks)

Police didn't want to get involved. They don't care about trespassing and they don't care about illegal riding.

Fish and Game is the only solution.
