Default Another Stormy Night

I hear a pretty strong line of storms rocked the Northern and Eastern side of the lake within the last hour or so. We just had a pretty good storm pass over us here in Nashua as well. Hope all is well to the North. Those of you in the area keep us posted.

Just after 8:00PM the wind picked up a bit, and the skies opened up and dumped a fair amount of rain on the Weirs. The first wave only lasted 10 minutes or so. Another burst of heavy rain came around 9:00. Then quite a lot of lightning could be seen in all directions, but nothing close by. As we drove toward Belmont the lightning seemed to be moving rapidly toward the south. In the past few minutes, there's lightning in the area again. Looks like it could be a very wet night, indeed.

It was fairly bad in Moultonborough again - torrential downpour, lightning and thunder, hail, etc. I was coming back from a meeting in Moultonborough and there was a big backup on the Neck Road because of fire engines, etc. near Sticks and Stones which took a direct lightning hit but they were able to respond and put it out quite fast, then after a half hour or so, we proceeded until the turnoff to Geneva Point and just before Trexlers and then were backed up again while fire engines were waiting for NH Elec Coop to shut off power and repair a downed electrical line in the road (the pole looked kind of damaged when we drove by.) Took about 30 mins this time. The firemen walked up the road telling the waiting cars what was going on. As we came down the Neck Road, there was lots of leaves, twigs, etc. in the road. I've seen more storms this year than any before. Almost getting used to it!

Unhappy Light show

This was one of the most active lightning storms I've seen. From Cow Island, we were watching Moultonborough and the mountains and it was nearly continuous lightning for at least an hour. This was followed by torrential rains here on Cow, along with some hail and wind (but not as windy as Friday 7/29!).

Power still out here at Cow as of 7:40 am.

The wind gusted to 48 mph here at 8:46 PM. No tree damage in our immediate vicinity, though. We got torrential rain and more lightning than we've seen in a long time. The "light show" was magnificent.

Default Power Back on Cow

About 11:00 am, power came back on on Cow, after about 15 hours. Many trees down, some on houses, in the area. Also, some down on houses on Little Bear. Next door neighbor had power lines ripped off his house by a fallen tree.

Really a bad strorm that went thru!

We were listening to the Lakes Region fire radio. It sounded wild along the neck road with wires, poles and trees down, electic odor smells in houses and the house on sticks and stones. I heard they ended up closing the neck road for a while to civilian traffic. We're going back up later this week and hope we find the camp fine.

Default Storm report on Mirror Lake

More trees down on Mirror Lake (none hit our cottage this time..Thank God), power was out for a while. The holes in the roof (from the last set of storms) let more water in. So much for the temporary fix put in place to keep the water out. Looks like another call to the Insurance Company.

Default Ouch

After it appeared that the storm was letting up, the winds picked up here in Moultonboro to the point of what seemed like hurricane strength. The trees were blowing sideways, the way you see it on the weather channel during a Florida catagory 4. We were scared off the porch. Then, the winds really started howling - like double what it already was. Well beyond "you can't believe it". We thought the house was going to be lifted off the foundation. Just as we hid behind the chimney, a 75 foot white pine came crashing down into the porch where we had just been. The tree was uprooted, and there is a root ball remaining that is 30 feet across by 12 feet high. Had we been still on the porch we would have survived, but the porch framing is broken, there is a hole in the roof, and it is probably totaled. In addition, four dock inserts were lifted out of the aluminium frame, and found this morning about 4 houses down wind. Phew!!

Just a ton of heat lightning in Gilford and some rain. Looks like a possibility of more of the same tonight.
