Hi everyone. Welcome back from winter (almost). Even as a seasoned tech in the marine trades, it's still hard to keep up with the rapidly changing technology.
There is SO much great stuff out there for our boaters these days to make boating safer and more convenient. Long gone are the days of analog and green screens. Though a long video, its is worth getting caught up on the new electronics gear for navigation / fishing, even if you are just wondering how far things have come since your Raymarine Classic E/C series or even the RL80/120's. Its mind blowing. The youtube clip is only on Garmin, but Lowarnce, for you anglers out there, also has awesome gear too. They all do really. Put this video on 1.75 speed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VhkSI5f-18&t=1192s Thinking of ditching the old gear at some point? I recommend if you want to upgrade later in the season, to install your transducers now, before launch and save the mid-season haul out. Then purchase the display afterwards. If you do not want to do it yourself, benefits can be found working with the smaller outfits ![]() The majority of the MFD packages that come with a transducer, are TRANSOM mount and not suited for full inboard applications, thus the reason a thru-hull will need to be purchased independently, or unless a package is avail with the xducer required/needed for your app. See you out there!! ![]() |

This .PDF should help those of you with selecting the right transducer for your application.
Things to make note: No transom mounted units on full inboards No plastic units on wooden boats Higher the freq applies to better target separation in shallow water Lower freq for the deep water folks. Garmin: https://www8.garmin.com/marine/PDF/t...tion_guide.pdf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyauQTwLioU Raymarine selection guide: basically the same info here. http://www.raymarine.com/view/index....id=176&col=197 Just added this page.. A clear list of available transducers and their application etc: http://www.gemeco.com/transducers-list.php Hope this helps clear the confusion. Last edited by Downeast; 04-07-2019 at 10:50 PM. |
