Default froze to death?, Aug 21, 2024; Mt Washington

Weather atop Mt Washington that supposedly killed a 72-year old guy from Virginia on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 `was high 30's, windy, and raining. He supposedly took The Cog railroad ride up to the summit and chose to hike back down on a trail or somewhere, and never made it?

Wow, that's a mighty low temperature for August, easy to see how he was unprepared. But at 425' from the railroad, wearing a raincoat, and you gotta think if the weather was super bad as he left the train he would have recognized his folly. That does not leave much time for hypothermia. So I'm going with heart attack

Default Hypoothermia and Fog may lead to disorientation

May have been a shift in weather from the summit and then in the fog disoriented. In the fog, the railroad may not have been visible. With high humidity and cool temps added to the wind, hypothermia can occur quickly, leading to further disorientation.

Default "Bad Weather and Tragedy Brings Us Off Mt Washington""

Ben on the Trail: "Bad Weather and Tragedy Brings Us Off Mt Washington" ...... www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihwSRmp18zs ..... filmed on August 21 on the summit area of Mt Washington and August 22 down the bottom, somewhere, and published on August 30

A short You Tube video by A.T. thru hikers, Day 154, which shows and talks a little about the "very cold" August 21, Mt Washington weather and the unnamed 72-year old male hiker from Virginia whose dead body was found on the trail.

Ben: "It was very cold out, this hiker probably died of exposure."

Ben: "Like, if we would have pushed on, then we would have had to of walked by the dead body. So we decided that we were done."

Ben's Sister: "Not for us ...... bad omen ..... it was really crappy weather ...... it was not safe ...... get off the trail."

Ben' Sister: "Don't hike unprepared!"

Ben in closing: "Hike on happy hikers, we'll catch you next time, hike prepared, please, everybody."

Ben's Sister: "Same thing!"

Default Sept 2, 2024...... a low of 26 predicted up Mt Washington, tonight

Tonight, Monday, Sept 2, twelve days since the Aug 21 hiker freezing death when temps were in the high 30's, with wind and rain; tonight's Mt Washington weather predicts a low of 26 with winds 40-60mph and gusts as high as 75mph.

This low Sept 2 26-degree cold and wind will probably catch some hiker who was prepared with winter hats, face masks and winter mittens who survives the wicked cold night, and make a very happening You Tube video.

..... stay tuned?

Default Anthony J. "Tony" Antenucci, 72, Falls Church, Virginia

This is the 72 year old hiker from Virginia ...... http://www.catholicherald.com/articl...king-accident/ who froze to death while hiking Mt Washington on August 21 2024.

He took The Cog train up, decided to hike down, "but the weather turned on him. His body was found a half-mile from the summit the following morning" by two Appalachian Trail thru-hikers. "It was very cold and he probably died of exposure."

"The weather that night up there on August 21 was high 30's, rainy, windy, foggy and miserable."

Very sorry to hear, condolences extended, dead or alive, you is always better alive, no matter how miserable you might be.
