Default Electronic repair

I have a 50-CD player-tape player- AM/FM radio which needs attention. When I want to play a cassette tape something errant is happening with this 'mode'. I am not smart enough about the technology to clearly explain the issue, but, in a nutshell, in 'cassette mode' something wrong is happening with the wind/rewind function such that it doesn't wind/rewind. Sometimes, there is also a problem with CD mode.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

www.tavelectronics.com, Plymouth NH, close to Rt 93-Exit 26 .... they also rent U-Haul trailers and trucks, across from Plymouth Police Dept.

It's time to move beyond the 1980's

Parts are going to be non-existent for this. Unless it's a simple cleaning this may be tough to fix. If it's a unit that you are really attached to, I would keep an eye on Ebay for someone selling a similar unit. Just about anything you could want or need will be listed at some point.

My suggestion is get yourself a smart phone, a nice bluetooth speaker or Sonos speaker system, and a subscription to Spotify.

I pretty much guarantee you won't miss your tape player one bit!

It can almost certainly be repaired but as it is old tech few remain able and willing to do so.

I'd google "who repairs cassette players near me?" and try to locate a repair shop.

If you make the trip to TAV Electronics in Plymouth then you should drive about two miles down Tenney Mt Hgwy to the ReStore. It is just beyond the NHEC Hdqtrs on the left before Walmart, because ReStore just may have a 50-cd player-tape player made by Sony or Panasonic for a ten dollar price in their used electronics donation room.

What is your goal?

Because it's a combo unit, I'm assuming sound quality isn't priority numero uno but access to specific media is?

Camp guy…I got a tour of Makers Mill on Back Bay… they do have the ability to repair and work on electronics. They also have a “fix it “day once a month, as I recall. I believe it is free, or you can donate what you think is an appropriate fee. They have experts in various areas, plus a fair bit of DIY stuff. It is a very impressive facility. I assume you are a WBoro resident. Give them a call.
