A comprehensive book titled "The History of Bear Island" by long time resident of East Bear Island, John A. Hopper, has been published this summer. It includes "vingnettes on other islands and lake topics". Obtained yesterday, I have only started to read it, and, already, I have learned facts about our location, as well as about other areas of this wonderful island.

We’ve spent hours reading it. My wife’s family owned a lot of South Bear at one time and it was very interesting to see all the land transactions. If you’re into genealogy and all the info mining involved you’ll love this book.
