Thumbs up The Annual Donzi Poker Run

Today was The Lake Winnipesaukee Donzi Club’s Annual Poker Run. It was wonderful to see so many boats racing down The Broads. (Yes, they all were obeying the 150’ rule while we were watching.) We counted at least eighteen of them on their way towards Alton Bay and back. It was such a kick to have ringside seats for this event and I wish there were more like it. I guess we have the speed limit at the back of the island to thank for the exciting show.

Ohhh, so that's why there were so many loud boats yesterday. Last year, one of the cards was being dealt right off of our island, so we watched for several hours. The "dealer" boat was anchored. Other boats would pull up at top speed and stop. Someone would dive in the water, swim to the dealer boat and be handed a card. That person would then swim back to their boat, climb aboard and zoom off. Looking back, I can't believe we found this entertaining for as long as we did.

Default That was what that was

I had ring side seats as well at the channel. My wife daughter and I just finished breakfast at donna Jeans and we were parked out back saw one DOnzi come through the chanel to the main part of the lake and then I lost count after 30 or so back to back it was awesome to see them all lined up going through the channel at headway speed so you can check them all out. Kind of like a choice line where everything goes by and you pick what you want.

Well thanks RG, that explains a lot. I thought we we're being invaded when I saw the parade!

All depends...if the owner is an "upper crust" status seeking social climber, he / she may very well say "Oh, by the way, if you have the time, I would be happy to allow you to accompany me on a cruise in my Donz-eye".

Most of them would probably say" Hey, wanna go for a ride Sunday???? We can take the Don-zee if ya want."

Don was his first name.

Donzee Baby was a reference of a female friend.

Hence the boat company name Donzi, as in Donzee.

Default Interesting Stuff!

Thanks GWC. It is nice to know where the names you see come from. Don sure was a busy fellow. It is sad that he is gone.

The Wikipedia story of his life reads like a mafia style movie. I’d go see it.

Default The Run was AWESOME!!

The 7th Annual Donzi Poker Run was in a nutshell... AWESOME! We had boats from as far away as Florida attend. The proper event permit was pulled from the MP, they knew the route, and the card stops. Marine Patrol Sgt McClean gave a really good safety speech. All in all it was a very safe run with no problems whatsoever!

Thanks to all those who attended! Can't wait for next year....
