Default No Summer White House

Romney suspends his campaign, and a collective sigh of relief is heard on the eastern flank of Winnipesaukee...

Yep -- one never knows. And I don't think the "mortal enemies" argument holds water. Look at Kerry-Edwards in '04. Fierce opponents in the early stages, and cuddly running mates later on. But they weren't on the Lake.

Sorry for breaching the no-politics rule; I just thought that the Romney news warranted a mention for its tremendous potential Lake impact.

We live in interesting times.

Funny -- during "Super Tuesday" coverage on XM radio this week, I heard a McCain speech replayed in which he referenced a question he was asked, "in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire." Intentional?

It ain't over until the convention, I just wish Mitt gave the speech (up until the part where he said he was stepping aside) he just gave 4 weeks ago. Although I'll bet he's been giving it right along, it just hasn't made it through the media morass. Oh well.......

I guess it is better for our time at the lake that he isn't president, although it certainly would have been exciting. I'm not completely sold on Mitt but anyone who loves the lake as much as I do is alright in my book.

Notice that Mitt "suspended" his campaign, instead of withdrawing. That means he keeps his delegates and can step back in if McCain has a John Dean moment or gets ill, which is not out of the question.

Exciting??? it would have been far more then Exciting. Everytime he came to town it would be a mess. Not to mention what would have happend to property values and taxes. Different things I have read indicate, that when a president has property somewhere, very quickly property values and taxes rise, and people are forced out. Not because of policy or anything like that, But because, the rich and famous start moving in. In short all of us that think the McMansion problem is out of hand now... It would get worse if the president lived on the lake.

I don't expect McCain to have a Dean momment. And I firmly believe that Mitt suspended his campaign, becuase his bussiness mind didn't want to have to say he was pulling out in front of the country. He suspended in the light of the press, and I believe when truely end his campaign silently when the press is no longer paying attention to him. It is a saving face kind of move. Romney doesn't want to admit defeat publically.

Regardless of how one views Mitt's politics, I sincerely believe that it is better for Wolfeboro and the surrounding area now that he will unlikely become president in the near term. Can you imagine how his presidency would have aggravated an already difficult summer parking problem in Wolfeboro?

Satellite uplink trucks from every major news organization. Talking heads primping in their trailers. Camera crews and boom mikes and portable power supplies. And that's just the broadcast media. Factor in Secret Service, State Police, gawkers, advisors, wannabes, pundits, print media, bloggers, protesters, and the crush of boats carrying curious tourists. Exciting, and a veritable windfall for local businesses (and the parking ticket guys), but a potential four- or eight-year migraine for many residents. Ask Kennebunkport.

Life in our modern times.

Default 2012

Everything I have seen and heard is that he is stepping aside now before he drags himself down too far. This is to set the stage for his run in 2012.

Default Hot off the press

Just read Romney is on top of the Short list.
WE might just have issues yet on the lake, might be worth it though

When's the next time Mitt does that old-wood-six-foot-stepladder-attached-to-an-old-wood-aquaboard, water skiing trick, as he skis it all around Rattlesnake Island?

This is one of those rare instances when you can recycle a post. And I'm all about recycling.

He bought a beachfront house in La Jolla, California in June (San Diego) He and his wife also own a waterfront house in Wolfboro, a home in Belmont, Massachusetts and a home in Deer Valley, Utah.

I can think of a house I would like him to live in for 8 years someday.
