Early morning fire on route 11D in Alton, below the scenic view. Very old cabin totally destroyed by fire. Lucky we had rain over last couple days because cabin was surrounded by woods. Probably had 10 fire trucks respond. The reason, firemen said was because they needed lots of water brought in due to no fire hydrants and couldn't "pull" water up from lake. I was told that owner stayed over last night but had left early this morning for race. It was cold last night so could have been space heater.

We have a cottage across the lake and I saw this when I got up. At first I thought it was a chimney but it got too thick, and then lots of black smoke, I was thinking someone was burning fresh pine causing creosote. sorry to see this happen.
