Default LaDaSun monday edition m.i.a. ?

Ok everybody, what the heck are those brainiacs over at the Laconia Daily Sun thinking? They have decided to NOT publish a newspaper on Sundays and Mondays? If they do not want to bother with Sundays and Mondays, then why do they go ahead with the rest of the week: Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri & Sat?

I have never-ever heard of a newspaper that does this? What is the LaDaSun smoking?

LadaSun posted many times that they are dropping Monday and posting Tuesday - Saturday. Guess too many people are too tired from the weekend to read on Mondays!

Smoking the same thing as the Conway Daily Sun, with which I believe they are affiliated. The Conway Daily Sun dropped their Sunday and Monday editions quite a while ago.
Perhaps they should change their names to the Laconia Whenever Sun and Conway Whenever Sun.

Default wha?

Dumbfounded. Really? Weekends in the Lakes Region are eventful, and Monday is the recap on what was news over the weekend!

Further, if they were going to make this move, why not wait until AFTER Bike Week?

The Conway Daily Sun (same publisher) dropped Monday quite a while ago. They mentioned that Monday was the day with the least paid advertising and a lower circulation. The decision also gave the employees Sunday to be with their families and no stress of publishing deadlines Sunday evening.

Now that you mention it, RISY, they opened up a Portland Maine paper within recent years, too. Do we suppose they've spread themselves too thin?

Thumbs down Union Leader dropped Saturday edition in 2009

I can't believe the UL which is supposedly "THE N.H." newspaper stopped publishing a Saturday addition last year. The Friday paper has an extra section called the Saturday insert which contains the comics + the advice columns and some other non-news items. The UL wants people to get their updates via computer if they need the Saturday news. Great for my aged
75+ parents who don't even own a computer!

Default Really???

I think the reason newspapers all over are cutting back pages, and in this case entire editions, is that they are receiving too much ad revenue, and simply don't know what to do with all the surpluss cash...
I mean, come on people, really???????
While many people, including myself, like nothing more than that first cup of coffee with a morning/daily newspaper, I fully realize that the publishers of said papers are not operating with my enjoyment in mind. They are there to make money...not do anyone any favors.
And ad dollars are few and far between.
Also, the simple fact is that most poeple under 30 yrs of age, simply laugh at the idea of buying a news paper. To them, it makes no sense...grew up with the internet.
I know, I know...we all may disagree with that, but need to acknowlegde it as a simple truth.
News papers are dying a slow death...there is no denying this.

If it takes you 8 cups of coffee to read the paper and it cost $34.00 per month, you must be reading the NYT or the WSJ, my paper takes me 1.34 cups of coffee per morning.

Congratulations if you have beat the "reading the Daily Newspaper habit" in the morning. I choose to hang on to my Hartford Courant habit as long as they deliver.

I wonder if this has anything to do with all those nice color ads they put in the paper now? I know from experience they are not cheap!! Not to mention the way thier billing is set up is a bit strange and had to understand. Mabey it was just me???
I personally read the paper almost everyday , picked it up at the Meredith Post office when I get my mail.

This is a sign of the times, and more importantly a reflection of consumers not supporting those local businesses that sponsor media outlets (which is how media is able to bring people their programs, news, etc.) This is happening everywhere. I make a special effort to support those local businesses that advertise on the media I consume, whether newspaper, radio, TV, or Internet. Just the other day I heard a radio commercial for Bootleggers. I needed new shoes, and decided to go to Bootleggers versus another store that isn't advertising. I made sure to tell the cashier and manager that I heard their ad on the radio. If people don't start supporting their local advertisers (and more importantly telling the business that their advertising is what brought them in) the local media outlets as we know them could possibly disappear.

Maybe you don't. (check my Avatar)

The free papers are entirely advertiser supported and if they get less advertising (Monday) than the cost to print then it seems they have to cut somewhere.

Default ending written newpapeer

The problem with stopping subscription to the newspaper is simple, Since it is mostly advertising and one sided reporting you lose the necessary ingredient to wrapping your fish.

I still value the printed news, both newspapers and magazines. My local newspaper here in Burlington is $45 for three months, delivered seven days a week. I suspect many will falter online as most don't click on any of the ads, that'll catch up.

I doubt many would be happy with any particular news agency or paper, unless they could agree with every single thing written. The challenge today is the same as it's always been, review different articles on the same topic, be inquisitive. The only alternative is that there could be a checkbox online next to every article or opinion piece, asking which way you'd like them to slant the article It's a logical enhancement, since many get their news that way now.

Yes. Yes it is. I believe it is part of a chain of papers operated by the O-Bla-Di-O-Bla-Da-Suncorp.

I cuttem some slack. Even if they went to a weekly format, you still get more than you pay for.
