Thank you 911 and EMS

Just arrived back in NJ after two weeks on Bear Island. Our first nite there at one in the morning we had a medical emergency and needed help. Having no clue on how this is handled on the islands we found to our surprise that the system is well in place. We first had the police boat and then the fireboat came out from Y Landing with the emts aboard. Well handled and trained people helped to make this much easier. We road in the fireboat to y and into an ambulance that took us to LGH . Happy to say all is well now and if you are on an island you are in good hands. Thanks to all for your help

I'm very happy things worked out for you!

There have been some important improvements on the islands in recent years with respect to 911 response. The old system was by family name and lot number. However lot numbers were inconsistent and even had duplicates. Family names change all the time.

Now every house has a number, usually done clockwise from a prominent location. And in the last couple of years they have added the GPS locations of docks.
