24 pages vs 56 pages

Ok, what am I talking about? Today's Saturday August 20 Laconia Daily Sun has 24 pages, while its' cousin newspaper, the Conway Daily Sun has 56 pages. 56 is more than twice the number of 24, so does that mean that the Conway local economy is 56/24 or 2.33 times bigger or stronger than Laconia's?

Conway vs. Laconia.....what's the difference?

And, the Berlin Daily Sun has a total of 20 pages, so what's that tell you, that Laconia and Berlin are more similar to one another, than to Conway, or what? I dunno, just wondering about all this stuff?

Much of what you see in the paper especially on Sunday are not a reflection of anything local but stories of interest that are pull from other major new publications and syndicated columnists. I find the Sunday paper to be 90% filler and 10% meat. Look at the Union Leader, between the ads (50% weight by volume), travel section, auto, real estate and sports sections what's left? Oh about 20 pages and much of that is not really local either.

Now that both the Union Leader and Laconia Citizen have weekend editions as opposed to a Sunday paper costing two dollars, they have to compete with the weekend Wall St Journal, also for two bucks. What's it gonna be; the Citizen, The Union Leader, both loaded up with national filler stories, or the two dollar weekend Wall St Journal which last weekend had an article about the Rockywold Deep Haven camps for families on Squam Lake.

Just take a gander at all the classified ads in the www.conwaydailysun.com and compare that to the local Laconia papers.....what-a-difference.... Conway NH; no longer a podunk north country town, or something!!

Want to visit a really dead town, then take a peek at the www.berlindailysun.com. Maybe it should be called the www.deadsvilledailysun.com!
