Leaf burning

Sorry, but I seem to remember a thread that answers my question, but my searches came up with nothing.

Can someone post the rules (permiting) required to burn your leaves in the fall. I am located in Moultonborough and seem to remember that there may be some local codes.

In Moultonborough, Chick-A-Dee station (the bird/animal feed store) can issue a brush/burn permit. No fee required.

Most dump leaves in woods and sometimes on other peoples property (not recommended). Others bag and take to town dump - special section for leaves. And you have to remove the bags and dispose of otherwise.

Obviously, you have to be at the burn pile the entire time.

Burning leaves in the fall is a wonderful old family tradition.....kids jumping in the leaf pile and then everyone surrounding the fire....as we all run to avoid the smoke as the wind shifts.A wood fire and burning leaves is a wonderful smell.......smells even better with a beer or two. Keep in mind that you can't burn until 5pm......that would be cocktail hour.

Is every town different? I am in Meredith but had no idea you could burn leaves. I'd always rake them and then trailer them to the dump. I would love to burn them instead. Where can I get a permit in Meredith?

I thought most towns had the Fire Dept issue burn permits.

GTO....right at town hall on Main st.I usually get a 3 day permit especially if I'm burning brush due to the fact that on certain days ,the wind carries toward my neighbors house and I just put it out and try again another day.
Always good to plan for that when you're burning.

In Sanbornton you need to get a burning permit from the fire dept. Before they will issue your permit they need to visit your residence and perform an inspection. I wanted a permit to use my portable outdoor fireplace which is about 2 feet in diameter. The fire dept inspected my fireplace and the location where I would be using it. Permit is only good for a year.

I don’t understand why a town would have a burn permit issued by anyone other than the fire dept. It makes absolutely no sense. How does the FD keep track of who is burning, how many have been issued on a given day, etc.
They usually restrict permits when there is more than a breeze for safety.
Does the town hall do this?

You are given a number to call and let them know you are having a fire.
