Arrow Sleeper and Rattlesnake Power Outage

Just thought that I would give fellow islanders a heads up that the islands lost power again last night after 11:00 pm. Power is not back yet, but hopefully will be soon.

High atop the Rattlesnake Island hilltop could possibly be a good spot for a wind turbine or two or three or four or five because it is might be sufficiently windy, plus the people who own the land, the Rattlesnake Island Assoc. maybe would benefit from the income stream as island residents probably can not see any hilltop wind turbines very well as they all look outward and away from their island homes.

How's this sound... the Rattlesnake wind farm .... is that a plan or what? Could be a way to turn that windy island, steepy steep, windswept hilltop into a year round, monthly cash flow?

Question IS Power

Sorry, I do not know. It is rather strange that these incidents weren't the result of poor weather.

Default Freezer contents...

Thanks RG for the heads up! Given that Vicki's school job is back in session again, we've unfortunately had to move home during the week days and only spend weekends on the island. That said....I had four bags of ice and quite a bit of frozen meats, etc in the freezer. From your experience....is there any chance that everything didn't thaw during the course of an 11 hour outage?? Boy....I'm probably going to be facing a huge mess (i.e. melted 20 lbs of ice) when I arrive this week!

Since the freezer wasn't opened (since you were away), I'd be surprised if you had anything more than a very slight dethawing of items. I wouldn't worry about it at all. 11 hours isn't that long in that regard.

Power went out Sunday morning for a few hours, too.

Now, if the powere will just go out again for another 12 hours or so, the timer for my automatic lights will be on schedule again...

Default Power Outage - Refrigerator/Freezer

An ice cube on the shelf will tell you how much melting went on during a power outage while you are gone. This power outage did not affect my frozen food. Whew!

NB, I am not sure about the generators. I do know of a few that have them, but am not sure how they are used. These folks do not yet have power to their places. Another down the way must have one because they have wintered a couple times on the island.

FLL, no thanks on the wind farm on Rattlesnake IS.

I went out to the island yesterday to do some chores in preparation for having my daughter and her family out for the long holiday weekend. On entering the cottage I quickly raced to the kitchen area to see if I'd need waders to be able to approach the refrigerator. I was thrilled to see that there was no "casual" water on the floor, and when I checked things out in the freezer....the four 5 lb bags of ice were unscathed! Over the course of the 11+ hour outage the temperature in the freezer had not even dropped enough to cause the individual ice cubes to freeze together into a block when the power came back on! Great news.....and thanks brk-Int for putting my mind at ease with your post!

There are some generators on the Island. Heard at least one during the most recent outage. I would actually have had one myself, but the one I want isn't available (out of stock). It's a 3100 watt unit - a modern design using an inverter (show below).

In the mean time, hooked up a 600 watt inverter to the boat and ran some stuff from that. Not the most elegant solution, but it works
