jet ski insurance

I have a used Jet Ski and was wondering about insurance for it. Does anyone out there have insurance for thier Jet ski and if so with who?

I think we use Progressive. About $350.

I use Sea Safe (Geico) and mine is only $186.00

use progressive, $100 annually
make sure you carry underinsured and uninsured coverage. Incase someone that does not have/or does not have enough insurance hits you.
If you are going to carry insurance to protect others you may hurt with thier property, you shoudl cover yourself the same from those that do not carry insurance

My guess is that many out on lake do not have insurance. Smaller older boats. Many of the older cars don't have insurance. That's a topic for another post.

Best to speak with an agent and find out exactly what is covered and what is not.

The cheapest is not always the best. I have heard horror stories about the ones that advertise on TV. Horror stories only when something happens and a claim has to be filed.

If you have car insurance and/or homeowners insurance - then go with them if you are satisfied with their coverage and service.

My wife shops insurance rates about every 3-4 years and has saved hundreds. Yes it takes time but it is worth it.
An retired insurance broker once told me to do just that because as you get older and or your driving habits are good you will be placed in a lower risk category with lower rates.
He said almost no insurance company is going to voluntarily lower your rates but if you shop around and come back with a lower rate with the same coverage they will usually match it to keep you. If not jump ship and move on.
She also only shopped the better quality insurance companies recommended by CR and JD power. There are a lot of cheap companies out there but when it comes time to place a claim you find out why they are cheap.

Personally I could not operate a Jetski without liability insurance. Those things can cause a lot of damage to people or property in an accident. Liability insurance is usually pretty cheap.

I do that too. I hate the work but it worth it, especially since we spend so much on insurance. Last year, my goal was to get as many policies with one company and due at the same time as I could, so I don't have insurance bills coming in all during the year. It was not possible to do all, but at least I got most of them due in either June or November.

Unless you have no assets, I would never recommend not having at least liability. A real roll of the dice. You should expect to pay no more than around $200.

When I had my two jet skis (last Year) both were relatively new and both were covered by progressive. Rates were right around $100.00 annually per. I couldn't find anyone to touch their price.

My regular insurance company (USAA) does not cover jet skis but referred me to Progressive. Cost is $100/year.

I have both a jetski and a boat covered by Progressive, combined I pay about 400$ a year. Do to Horse power ratings both my crafts are designated as performance crafts. Included This is a full coverage insurance policy, and covers both crafts for replacement cost. My crafts are probably over insured, but I tend to prefer it that way for piece of mind.

there are several flavors of boating insurance, when you shop and compare make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

A lot of these cheap insurance companies rely on you not reading the fine print. So yes they save you money but many times you get far less coverage then you believe you have.
I also like to be over insured, I had my Baja insured for original replacement cost until I put it on consignment, then I dropped it to cover it for book value.
