I was traveling on Paugus Bay between Big and Little Island on Sunday and hit something. At first, I thought I hit a rock but according to my Bizer map and App, the depth was around 17 feet. It put a nice little chink in my prop. Does anyone know of any new low areas there?

Welcome to the forum!
My guess is a partially submerged log. My lower unit picked up a decent tree limb this weekend near Gov.s Island and Stonedam Island. |

in that area it is nice and deep in the straight shot in the middle of the markers but it is almost like a channel the sides come up quick

With all the rain we've had the lake is higher and there's a lot of run off. Lots of logs and other debris floating all over the lake.

Looks like at least one area with some shallow spots in there. Of course you can't see the markers on this bing map image.
http://binged.it/ZIHGyi I never go through there, but the Bizer map says you can. |

Both my wife and I have taken that route for years, like 10, and never hit a thing.
It is the straightest route up or down the bay and eliminates a lot of traffic.

I always take that route. Even in the middle of the night. I don't see it very hard to do if you just pay attention. I did notice the buoys have shifted a bit through the years. I tend to travel a lot further from the navigation markers lately as I notice a number of markers have drifted out of place. When the buoys were wooden, then had a number plate on them to report to the MP. The plastic ones they used do not, making it more difficult to report.

We noticed some semi-submerged dock debris with nails floating in Paugus on Saturday. It is possible that you hit that. We mentioned the debris to a couple of boaters; since we were on the PWCs we could not pick it up.

I go through there all the time because it is the most direct shot out of the bay from Lakeport. I would never go between the markers though. I always split the difference between the markers and the small island. If you go between the markers, you are headed for a huge pile of rocks that is not very deep, but very hard!
