MP had one boat out yesterday 4/20 and will have one out today 4/21. As for lake coverage and when they have a full crew covering the lake, no answer to that.
From my understanding they do not ramp up and have much out before Memorial day W/E.

They had a boat in the water at least a week before ice out as I saw them at Glendale...

Saw MP going between Sleeper at Rattlesnake about 11AM on Sunday. I was surprised to see them this early

I believe the marine patrol maintain the navigation systems on inland waterways. It appears that some of the buoys on the lake have moved due to ice movements? Is there a reference to the correct GPS mark for each buoys so that if one is out of place we can call the patrol?

As with others I saw a MP boat out both Saturday and Sunday. This early in the season, they are pretty scarce. There will be a more notable presence the 2nd or 3rd weekend in May, as they start to get out on the water, and prepared for Memorial day weekend.

I have been going to the lake for 25 years or so now... and this is how it always seems to work...

Today's LaDaSun has an article on the Coast Guard Auxiliary and how they will act as the eyes and ears for the Marine Patrol on Winnipesaukee. Getting reimbursed for gasoline, each boat belongs to the driver/C G Aux member and crew on-board and it sounds like they are 'armed' with their cellphone or two-way radio, binoculars, camera and a high-powered water cannon.......oopsie....ok.....so probably there is no high-powered water cannon.....just threw that in for extra added effect to get your attention!

LACONIA — This summer, for the first time in its 66-year history, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be deployed on freshwater other than the Great Lakes when members of Flotilla 2-8, headquartered at the U.S. Coast Guard Station, Portsmouth Harbor take to the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee.
Sean Skillings of Milton, staff officer for public affairs, said that while the Auxiliary has been teaching marine safety and inspecting vessels on the lake for many years, this year it will also patrol the lake this summer and, in partnership with the U.S. Power Squadron, offer a range of educational and training programs.
Created by Congress in 1939 amid growing threats of war, the Auxiliary numbers 36,000 volunteers who support the Coast Guard in all but its law enforcement and military operations. Its members receive the same education and training as their regular counterparts and wear the same uniforms, with silver buttons and braid in place of the gold worn by regulars.
Skillings said that Flotilla 2-8 numbers some 70 members, about half with military experience, and is responsible for the Atlantic coastline between Kennebunkport, Maine and Hampton, New Hampshire. Members of the Auxiliary operate their own vessels, which Skillings said become "authorized platforms" while on duty and are reimbursed for their fuel costs. He said that the Auxiliary assist with shepherding large ships like freighters and tankers in and out of Portsmouth Harbor as well as patrol the coastal waters and navigable rivers.
The Auxiliary provides instruction in all aspects of boating safety and basic navigation as well as offers courtesy inspections of vessels to ensure they are seaworthy and property equipped, Skillings said, noting that courses are posted on the Flotilla's website, www.uscgauxnh.com.
Although the Auxiliary responds to emergencies, Skillings said that members primarily serve as the "eyes and ears" of the New Hampshire Marine Patrol. "If we see someone operating recklessly , we contact the Marine Patrol and if a boat is disabled we'll call for a tow and stay with it until it arrives," he said."We're not there to set speed traps."
Skillings expected the Auxiliary to deploy three boats with crews of between three and five on Lake Winnipesaukee during the summer months. "Our presence may make the lake safer for everyone and it provides an opportunity for us to train crews on calmer waters," he said.

....say-hey....in the photo collage on the CG-Aux's home page, up at the top, there's a photo of an Aux towing another boat on a towline. If my little outboard conks out leaving me in my 16' fishing boat all alone & adrift on the big lake, will the CG Aux tow me home, or maybe to the closest repair marina or someplace safe like that?

I have heard that the Marine Patrol does not provide any tow services unless it is a special situation like you are too drunk to be out there boating because they are the State Police: - i.e., "To serve & protect, but sorry.....no freebie towing.....unless u r drunk!"

Fll, I have read on here that MP has towed some people. But I can tell you our son broke down with his boat one evening out on the lake and MP told him they don't tow. So from our experience, they don't tow. Others might argue with me. Maybe it depends on the individual officer, how he feels???
