Default Please support Winni Playhouse

Okay, we don't like to beg(!) but we know people who read this forum care about the area and want to see it thrive. We opened up the Winnipesaukee Playhouse (Alpenrose Plaza, formerly Dexter Village) a year ago thinking that it would be a great resource for the community. We (the owners) all moved here specifically to do this and while we love living up here, unless more people start coming through the doors there's just no way we're going to be able to keep this going.

Hope this doesn't sound too negative... it's just that we're so proud of the work we're doing. Audience members who do come in tend to rave about it, which means that we're doing something right! We just wished more people would check us out for the first time. We do find that when someone comes in the door for the first time they tend to come back again!

There's lots going on... surely something takes your fancy!
For families with young kids we have children's musicals every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 1pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 11am.

For adults, there's something every night of the week except Sundays.
Right now we're showing the thriller Deathtrap (great for pre-teens and above). On July 30th we have stand-up comedy.

Check out our website, www.winniplayhouse.com. There is definitely something to interest all tastes this summer!

Please visit us this summer. We're air-conditioned and waiting for you!

Wow -- GREAT site and lineup. We will definitely be there! Thanks for the heads-up. My son is heavily involved in community theatre, so we do a lot of it down here, but never realized this was there! Good luck!

Thumbs up Great Night Out

We have been to the Winnipesaukee Playhouse twice. Both times it was great and at a resonable cost. Parking was easy. I was very surprised at the low attendance. It is also a short from the Weirs, over the bridge and 100 yards of flat sidewalk.

As far as I am concerned, this is one of the treasures of the Weirs Beach area. It would be a shame to see it fold.

Default I would definately support you

if I still lived up there. Any live theater is wonderful for a community. I am surprised that you have not had more response to this thread. Here's hoping you can hang in there.

I have been in there and my neice"s have been involved in a few plays over there. Great place and good for the community. You can make a night out of it with The Willows that is in the plaza or Waldo Peppers with in walking distance. just my .02....

Default This could possibly help

I don't know what plays you may have been performing lately, but classics always do well. Something like Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest always does well. It is perfectly written and audience members from all ages and walks of life can truly enjoy it. Also Sam Shepard plays do really well.

Default Play Suggestions

Thanks for your message. We do pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of genres in order to appeal to all different ages and tastes. In the last year alone we've done everything from a modern classic (The Crucible) to one of the hottest contemporary plays, Proof, which opened last night and runs until August 26th. It won the Pulitzer, Tony and Drama Desk awards in 2001 and will be released in Sept as a film with Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins and Jake Gyllenhaal.
People who don't want to see plays have also been enjoying concerts (jazz, cabaret, etc), stand-up comedy and magic.
That's why our motto is "There's something for everyone at the Winni Playhouse"!
