All-
I want to start by thanking everyone on this site for giving out very helpful information about all the different islands around the lake and how the living conditions are so different on each one. After looking for property for nearly four years, my wife and I finally got a piece of land on Sleepers this past week. It has a very old structure on it with the contents still inside. The items in the camp have not seen the light of day since about 1981. Any ideas on removal of all this trash? We can obviously go back and forth by boat, but this would not only be very time consuming but would probably be a bit disgusting since we need to remove a small chemical toilet and several mattresses amongst other rodent infested items. To make things more difficult, we also don't have a dock yet, but hope to "borrow" the neighbors in the off season months of October and November. The camp structure will be salvaged for now, but eventually removed next year or the year after. Thank You Tim |

Call Dave @ Diversified Marine in Guilford. He can probablly put a dumpster on his barge and deliver it to your island property. When you are done cleaning the camp out he can take it away and dispose of it.

Congratulations on becoming an island resident.
Island Support Systems (293-HELP) can do most anything, including actual cleaning. Barge, manpower, etc. Chemical toilet? Whoever you use, it sounds like you'll be doing a lot of barging, maybe to install septic system. Interview a couple of folks and see who you're comfortable with. You'll need a lasting relationship.. |
