Default Primary Care Physician

My family needs a new Primary Care Doctor. I live in Gilford but would like to avoid anyone doctor associated with LRGH. We would be willing to go 15-20 miles. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

This request is a tough one.

Medical care has changed over the decades.
Many medical doctors are now part of big business. The hospital business.

Many or all of the doctors in this area are employees of LRGH.

I used to have Dr. Thomas Nadeau in Meredith. The practice was Dr. Nadeau and his wife/nurse/bookkeeper. He retired. Then LRGH purchased the practice and brought in a bunch of LRGH salaried employed doctors.

Not sure if the same holds true for the LRGH clinic on North Main Street in Laconia. But my guess is that all are employed by LRGH.

There may be some independents out there so let others chime in.
Most all doctors are at least affiliated with some hospital. So you might have to look for those affiliated with the Wolfeboro hospital. Or some other hospital. If you don't mind driving, find a doctor affiliated with Dartmouth Hitchcock hospital in Lebanon, NH.

Let's see what others have to say.

Default Dr. Misiewicz

Off the Meredith rotary on Rte 3. I moved to the area several years ago and tried three LRGH PCP. I have pretty good luck with him so far. He was affiliated with Elliot in Manchester.

I stopped going to LRGH many years ago. I go to Concord Internal medicine now and love it. It is affiliated with Concord Hospital. You never wait to be seen. When you have an appointment you go right in. The doctor's are fabulous. I am not sure if they are taking any new patients, but it is worth a try. Concord is a bit of a drive, but i always do errands when I am down there. The office phone number is 603-224-4003.

Default Primary care

PJARD. As others have said, stay away from Laconia and LRGH. I have had a great experience with Spear MM Hospital and the physicians around Plymouth. For primary care, I recommend
Mid-State Health. They have served me very well for the past 10 yrs. And by the way, both my wife and I are retired medical people who know and understand the difference.

Wouldn't go to Laconia unless i actually wanted to be misdiagnosed and die. I've only lived in this area 5-6 years but have heard and seen nothing but horror stories there.

I recently had a procedure done at LRGH (think age 66 ) and found everyone including the doc to be pleasant, attentive, courteous and professional.
I had a PCP out of the Meredith facility and she was nice as well. Staff there was always helpful too...I am not a "big" run to the doctor guy and am relatively healthy so not much experience with doctors here or anywhere...

i would have to agree. I've had pleasant experiences at the hospital (ER for kids) and also at the Laconia Clinic where our Primary Care doc is located. The Laconia Clinic doctors that I have seen (internal medicine and urology) and services have always been pleasant and prompt.

just my 2¢

My wife took one of the kiddos to LRGH urgent care last summer and had nothing but good to say about it.

All my physicians are at Mass. General Hosp. Maybe a 2 hour drive from the lake and it is an hour drive from our other home. They saved me and my wife.
We were in Boston post spine surgery for me when my wife had terrible pain.
I took her to the ER, was admitted with 11 pulmonary emboli. I developed serious problem 8 yrs. ago and they saved my life.
If you have an acute problem you can go to the local hosp. and be transferred after being stabilized.

We are new to the area. My wife and I have seen a PCP and a gastrointerologist at the Laconia Cilinic (LRGH). We have been completely satisfied with all aspects of our treatment and ongoing care. We have both seen dermatologists in
Wolfeboro and gave been happy with them as well.

A couple of years ago I was totally misdiagnosed in the ER at LRGH. It was a nightmare. I will NEVER go back.

Default Affiliations are important now days

Healthcare is now 20% of our economy. Unless you have what they now call a "Cadillac" insurance policy, your insurance company is going to tell you what Doctor you can see and which one you cannot. Nearly all doctors ( good, bad and average) are affiliated with a hospital, if not they are required by law to let you know that. All decent hospitals are affiliated ( unless private). You move up the ladder of affiliation, depending upon the hospitals equipment and certifications, and if all goes well you "land" at a hospital that hopefully cures you.
When my son was 7 years old, my nurse/wife and self misdiagnosed my son as having a cold and/or flu. When his temp hit 101 we took him to Lakes region ER. Turns out that that one of his pocks ( from chicken pocks four weeks earlier) had become infected from him scratching. He was in ICU for five days and a regular room for three. WE BELIEVE, that they saved his life. The pedi doctor was from Laconia Clinic.
my 2 cents

I've been to LRGH for both emergency and basic maintenance stuff. Every time the competence of the staff has been fine. And the environment is much more pleasant and less hectic than the big hospitals. No, it's not MGH or B&W but this is the lakes region, not Boston. Getting the basic stuff done here is fine - go to a bigger hospital for the hard stuff.
