Thumbs down Extreme Chunkin

We went over to New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday for the Extreme Chunkin event. To say the least, it was poorly run and disappointing:
  • It took about a half hour to get into the parking lot because they did not have a separate line for folks who had bought their tickets prior to the event. Everyone waited in line while they collected gate as the cars entered the parking lot.
  • They advertised a car show....there was nothing there.
  • There was relatively little going on...it took about 20 minutes or more between actual launches and everyone was just standing around with nothing to do.
  • They decided to fire towards a hill, so you could not see the flight of the pumpkin other than the launch. Some of the pumpkins were actually fired into the woods....stupid.
  • They put the kids stuff all the way at the end...so parents with small children had to hike about 1/2 mile to get there.
  • There were only a few unappetizing concessions with long lines (french fries, onion rings).
  • No real entertainment between launches...the MCs were absolutely awful.

I hope that they get their act together...there was a big crowd and generally not too pleased.

I went Sunday.

It was an ok show, but not great.

Getting into the parking was the slowest as reported.

There was a car show, small, maybe 10 cars or so. Nothing special, but I didn't go for the car show.

They ran the events in order of the machines, the next one would fire after the previous machines score was reported. Yes, you couldn't see the pumpkins land, but at 2000 to 4000 ft away, I'm not sure without the hill if you would have seen much.

If you missed this firing order, my guess is that the rest of the day would be pretty boring.

In short there wasn't much to do but see these machines operate. It was interesting to see them in person, vs on TV.

I'm glad I went, but thought it was a bit over priced.

Would I go again? No.

IMHO, this would do better by being part of another event such as the Deerfield fair, rather than trying to be a stand alone event.

I went on Saturday and my biggest regret is I will never get those 2 hours of my life back. It was kinda cool seeing some of the contraptions but the whole event was boring. And with each launch from a new machine, you'd have to walk down to that machine to wait, and wait and wait, all while listening to the 2 guys on the micraphones amusing themselves. The only good thing that came out of it, we left after about 2 hours and got home in time to take a great last day boat ride before taking it out on Sunday.
