boat blanket ideas

We've got a smallish bowrider and I want to keep a blanket or two onboard for my kids. This year the weather has been so iffy that we go from swimming to freezing! The problem is that everything on my boat ends up moldy eventually. Any ideas?

We simply rotate out large beach towels -- they serve both purposes !!

You can get them at Army surplus stores. They keep you warm, even when wet. They are a little scratchy. Just wash them in cold water and air dry.

Our LL Bean washable wool blankets get a lot of use at the lake, on the boat, around the campfire, the beach, etc. Much softer than the army blankets my grandmother had on all of our beds at camp when I was a kid!

Winnipeseogee, what about some of those Mylar emergency blankets? Amazon sells them in multiples for under a buck a piece.

They sell an electric blanket that plugs into your 12V socket. Wife uses for early spring and the fall. You might to be able to use one of the double sockets. Don't know how much current they draw. Got mine at Amazon. Some are big enough for 2 persons, some with auto shutoff.
Speaking from experience, don't forget to unplug when boat is shut off. Had dead battery at Wolfeboro docks in the fall. Luckily gas station had one of those battery packs.

We use Stadium blankets - waterproof on one side, soft blankie on the other - they are great, block the wind keeps you nice and warm! (and useful in rain)

Blankets, large towels or fleece throws are a great idea. I store them in the had in a clear bag that a wilt came in. It has a handle, so if someone needs to go, it's easy to move out. We have two plug in blankets, as described above. I also have three retired Spongebob fleece throws that always gets a laugh.

Back before the camp, I always had a big puffy sleeping bag. I got laughed at by my boys, but we boated early and late in the season, and it kept me very happy. On board for emergencies, I have a few of those metalized space blankets.
