Am curious as to how this happened given the traffic, speed limit, etc. Kinda strange place for trailer to be out-of-control. If it was going south, uphill, even more of a mystery.

Unless he came down the hill and had no brakes and that beat plowing into the cars in front of him. He was going down hill it appears as there was another water truck pulled off to the side from the same company heading down the hill.

Let me see if I can remember all this stuff about truck brakes from 13 years ago?

Big trucks with air brakes have an automatic emergency brake system that is not controlled by the driver. Normally, an air brake system operates with 120psi air, and when it falls below 60psi, the emergency spring mechanisms will immediately set the brakes on all the wheels for a very very fast stop. The brake air lines that provide 120psi air to each set of dual wheel brakes are rubber hoses strung below the truck body. If one rubber air supply hose breaks or disconnects, then the 120psi immediately loses air fast, drops below 60psi, an alarm buzzer sounds, the red and yellow big brake set buttons pop up on the right side of the dashboard and the driver knows the truck will come to a screeching halt very fast and he has seconds to move it onto the breakdown lane, or someplace, while the emergency springs set the brakes, and the vehicle is stuck on that spot until the air brake system problem is fixed.

Could be the fast turn off into the Hart's parking lot plus the weight of the shifting water in the 9000-gal tank trailer worked together to flip it over?

Truck brakes use old style drum brakes, and the front two wheels that steer the truck do not have any brakes.

Say hey ........ how's that sound for a believable "sidewalk supervisor" explanation without seeing anything ........ duh yeah ...... Lakes Region

The driver of the water truck is a hero for his quick thinking and deciding to turn into Hart’s parking lot with only seconds to make that decision. If he had gone farther down the hill there aren’t any opportunities to turn off and I’m sure the truck would have been going much faster and impossible to stop. People could have been killed. And fortunately the driver only suffered a minor hand injury. It could have been much worse.

Close. The steer axle does have brakes. This could have been something as simple as a broken service brake line at the pedal, trailer service brake line could have been compromised, mechanical failure to name a few.

rick35 is right. If that if that fully loaded tanker had gained speed into town it could have been catastrophic. Thank God he was an experienced driver and had the courage to make that decision.

Yes these services fill pools for reasons such as pools in remote locations or where water is expensive, drawn from a lake or when the pool needs to be filled quicker than with a garden hose.

Unlike driving a car in NH, drivers of big trucks, trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 12,000-lbs or more, are required by federal law to wear their seat belt. This gets enforced by the local and state police, and not wearing their seat belt is a violation with a fine of something like $125(?) plus maybe one point(?) on insurance.

Seems like wearing the seat belt probably helped in this roll over?

Are passengers in big trucks required by federal law, enforced in all 50-states, to wear their seat belt? My guess is yes, but cannot recall?

NH is the one and only state where drivers are not required to wear a seat belt. Probably, a late model BMW X6, the ultimate driving machine, is the most common car in NH, and everyone has too much common sense to not be wearing their seat belt ...... go figure?

Yes passengers in commercial vehicles are required to wear a seat belt. My passenger, a 5 foot tall stuffed cat, is always seat belted.

I checked-in here after viewing YouTube "Compilations" of traffic accidents.

'Think I'll change my 2-inch stock seat belts over to a 3-inch belts.

Why is that? Don’t most pool water transporters just hook up to a permitted hydrant.

Many pool transports do hook up to hydrants or springs. Others are hauling ionized water thus eliminating the need for chlorine. An ionizer at the pool takes care of any needed water after that.

You must have skipped a class or been daydreaming about noodles that day. Most heavy trucks have wheel brakes on all axles, including the steering axle. The spring brakes are not on the steering axle.

Oh well, could be I was misinformed when I was told that semi tractors built by makers like Freightliner, Volvo, and Kenworth do not have brakes on the front two wheels that do the steering.

As everybody knows, it's a smart move to keep some big space between your car and big trucks .... probably everyone knows that.

Foam brightly colored swimmer's "noodles" ...... off topic but what the heck ......depending on your 'body mass index' which can range from an extremely thin person with an 18-bmi to an overweight person with a 35-bmi, a thin or medium diameter noodle works very good as a swimmer's belt by threading a line down through the center hole and tying around your waist .... and provides good safety for swimming long Lake Winnipesaukee swims through wind, waves, and deep cool water.

You will probably be surprised how far you can swim with a noodle belt for safety because it lets you relax and take your time, and stop to rest as needed.

Do believe that I will don this here blue noodle belt and go swim from here to www.popsclamshell.com on Alton Bay this afternoon ....... just for something to do ..... thinking about that $6.25 onion steak sub ..... all the long way ...... yum-yum-yum!

The brakes on the trailer portion are on when there is no air pressure. It is the air pressure that releases the brakes. As far as pool water, I just refilled mine last year after changing my liner and dug well would take a few days to fill my pool and put hurting on the well. My pool water supplier gets their water from the city of Manchester so it was already "conditioned" and no treatment was needed until it needed more chlorine. Not cheap but its the way to go for many of us pool owners. I see the tankers all over the place this time of year.

There are spring brakes on the tractor too. They are on every axle of the truck, except the steering axle, to keep the vehicle from moving without sufficient air pressure.
