This is my first winter here in the Lakes Region. Where is the best source to find local forecasts? Thank you very much.

Welcome.
How far out do you want to forecast? The weather channels on your VHF do updates every hour and do regional / county. Several online sites can give you a forecast by ZIP code (Accuweather; weather.com) NECN gives about 50 "forecasts" a day with a 10 day outlook and some of thewse are short, others more detailed. WMUR does pretty well with a brief forecast every 30 minutes as a break from Good Morning America. Lots of local weather is, in fact, very local. You might get 6" of snow and others in town get 3" depending on which side of the hill you're on and your elevation. Radarbug and weathernow are phone apps that are helpful. |

For the greatest #1-best, totally amazing weather service ever made, since weather was first invented, go to www.weather.gov, the National Weather Service, and enter either your town and state, or the zip code.
Relying on weather.gov will keep you winning and winning and winning. You will be totally winning so much with weather.gov that you will get tired of always winning the weather. ... ![]()

With hiking, biking, and boating, I've used enough weather apps/services/sources to know that nobody is ever right but all are usually close.
Take, for example, my first winter hike yesterday: using Mountain Forecast, NWS, and a few others, the ultimate result was "windy and cold as hell." So, just choose a couple--I use Weather Underground and NWS--and take an average, being prepared for the extremes of each. When it comes to very near future/now, however, I like the MyRadar app. It's simple and has always helped me make good decisions. In fact, I posted about getting caught in Alton Bay last year--we were heading back to Moultonborough, but MyRadar showed a fast-moving system and we were able to get back and docked in time to wait it out in the (relative comfort of the) pavilion. Godspeed, and welcome to the forum! Sent from my SM-G950U using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |

I find that the Ch 9 weather team is consistently accurate in reporting what happened in the prior 24 hours

It was said that Don Kent, the Weatherman for WBZ Boston for over 40 years, had a 74% improvement in accuracy after they installed a window in his office.

Be aware that the forecasts on the National Weather Service web site are for Laconia. I'm at the other end of the lake and find that there is often quite a difference. I typically use weather.com which is usually a bit better for my area.
WMUR's weather forecasts are typically about as accurate as their new reporting, which is to say ... not very! |

For a short range forecast I like the Dark Sky app; I find it surprisingly accurate.

So what has Moultonborough gotten with this recent "event?" What's on the ground now?
